Hello Daniel,

Here is today’s scenario. Translate this message to a business partner into French:

“I realized this morning that the figures in the report were wrong. Could you send us the updated version before Friday’s meeting?”

Today’s goal: reuse the expression from Monday.

Simply reply to this email.

Good luck,
Aldo

French matters for your career. Time is what’s missing.

Meetings, emails, negotiations: when you work in France or with French clients, it’s often in the decisive moments that French makes the difference. Yet between a forty-hour week and courses that require blocking out time, progress always comes after everything else.

  1. Courses that are hard to fit in.

Traditional training takes time and mental energy that a busy schedule can’t spare.

  2. Apps that are quickly forgotten.

Badges and notifications don’t hold up for long against the urgencies of the office.

  3. Knowledge that fades.

Without regular practice, new vocabulary is forgotten within days.

It fits naturally into your day.

ALDO asks for no new tool, no password, no slot in your calendar. Everything happens where you already work: in your inbox.

  1. 08:00

    The exercise arrives.

A short text to translate, drawn from real work situations: a client email, an update in a meeting, a negotiation.

  2. 10 min

    You reply.

Straight from your inbox, whenever it suits you during the day.

  3. Right away

    The correction follows.

A suggested version, the nuances explained, anglicisms and false friends spotted, and a score to track your progress.

  4. The next day

    What hasn’t stuck comes back.

A point not yet mastered returns from a new angle, until it becomes second nature.

A correction designed to move you forward.

Your answer

« J’ai réalisé ce matin que les chiffres dans le rapport étaient faux. Pourriez-vous nous envoyer le version mis à jour avant la réunion de vendredi ? »

Suggested version

« Je me suis rendu compte ce matin que les chiffres du rapport étaient faux. Pourriez-vous nous envoyer la version mise à jour avant la réunion de vendredi ? »

Key points

  1. The false friend. “Réaliser” mainly means to carry out or to achieve. To say you became aware of something, French prefers “se rendre compte”: “je me suis rendu compte”. It’s the expression from Monday.

  2. The preposition. “The figures in the report” becomes “les chiffres du rapport”: in French, the figures belong to the report.

  3. The agreement. “Version” is feminine: “la version”. The past participle agrees with it: “mise à jour”.

Score:

15/20.The meaning is right. Only a few turns of phrase borrowed from English are left to fix.

Tomorrow: “se rendre compte” will come back in a new form in your next exercise.

Keep it up,
Aldo

The DELF or DALF in sight, without cramming sessions.

Practicing every day is also a way to prepare without thinking about it. ALDO’s steady rhythm gradually prepares you for the DELF or the DALF*, to showcase your French officially on your résumé, without intensive cramming.

* DELF and DALF are official French-language diplomas. ALDO is not affiliated with the bodies that issue them and does not guarantee any result.

Our philosophy

“Technology in the service of people, for more effective learning.”

Technology replaces neither the teacher nor the learner’s effort. It removes friction, keeps learning going between lessons, and multiplies the impact of human connection.

ALDO was born in the classroom. An English trainer for companies and a philosophy student at the Sorbonne, Jade Suzor saw the same thing with every learner: learning doesn’t stop after school, but making progress while working full time is a real challenge. ALDO is the answer: a short, demanding daily ritual that fits into an already full day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install an app?

No. Everything happens in your inbox, the one you already check. No tool to install, no password.

How much time should I set aside?

10 minutes a day. The exercise arrives at 8:00 AM, and you reply whenever it suits you during the day.

What level do I need to start?

All levels are welcome. Exercises follow the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), from A1 to C2, and adapt as you progress.

Who corrects my exercises?

The ALDO agent, an artificial intelligence guided by a teaching framework designed by a language trainer: CEFR levels, grammar, business expressions, false friends. Its corrections are kind and explain every choice.

Will there be a teacher?

At launch, ALDO works entirely on its own, by email. Sessions with an ALDO teacher, by video or in person, may be added later. Let us know in the questionnaire if you’d be interested.

When will ALDO be available?

ALDO is opening gradually. People on the waitlist will be the first to hear from us.

What happens to my answers to the questionnaire?

They are used only to build ALDO and to contact you about its launch. They are never sold or shared.

P.S.

Why “Aldo”? For Assisted Learning Delivered Originally. But above all, it’s a first name: the one that came to mind when the project started. We later found out it was also the name of the owner of our favorite trattoria, in Paris’s 18th arrondissement. A place full of heart and generosity, just like we want every ALDO email to be.
